Day 1

In context to our class Sonic Interaction Design we received the task to use a simple cube and design an affordance using sound only. The cube can be equipped with sensors measuring proximity, elevation, loudness, brightness, acceleration and orientation.

To start, we did a quick brainstorming writing everything down that came to our minds. After we tried to cluster and further develop the ideas that had the most potential.

brainstorming ideas

We came up with two directions we wanted to explore; one more abstract and ambient one and on the otherhand a concrete scene of people within a cube. After some back and forth we chose to pursue the idea of people in a cube.

In order to quickly test the we created a quick prototype on Reaper using a MIDI input from a piano. We mapped different sound the people would make, depending on the movement, on different keys. The group of people inside the cube are influenced by the movement of the cube. On different keys we mapped different sounds of people.
